The
Convey Congratulations ... slogan was used in Sydney from 27 November 1934 to 2 July 1941.
The 29 identified formats used at Sydney with this slogan:
- have circular date stamps with no box number and N.S.W. at the base; or
- have box date stamps with one of the recorded numbers 1, 2 or 3; or
- have a PAID inscription in the box.
Within each of the broad types of formats, there are various dies incorporating different letter positions and types of box for posting.
The date stamp usually had TIME then DAY/MONTH then YEAR.
An extract from a Memorandum dated 17 July 1935 from the Superintendent of Mails, Sydney stated:
"With regard to the test of specially prepared slogans advised as required in your Memorandum of 27 July 1934, whereas your advice stated that the six each of mild steel and five each of special chrome steel of each of slogans No. 32 (Send Greetings by Telegraph on Specially Coloured Forms) and 33 (Convey Congratulations by Telegraph on Specially Designed Forms) would be supplied for Test to date six of No. 33 of mild steel and five each of No. 32 and 33 of chrome steel have been received.
Attached is a set of sample impressions from these slogans and accompanying each impression is a statement of the number of postmarks produced to date from the die from which the impression was obtained.
One of the chrome steel slogans has cracked along the flange above the letters "CON" in the word CONVEY. The defect does not produce a noticeable blemish in the impression but the fault slug is returned herewith for your information. With this exception, the whole of the slugs supplied for special tests appear to be in good order".
None of the 1934-1935 examples in the Census of known usage of this slogan summarised below show signs of such a crack.
